Why Daemon Didn’t Protect the Stepstones in House of the Dragon
The reason Daemon didn’t protect the Stepstones in House of the Dragon is simple: it’s difficult to keep control over the islands. On top of that, the Stepstones offer very little in the way of resources, so the longer Daemon and company are there, the more their resources are drained which they express as much when the episode shifts to the War of the Stepstones. When you boil it down, attempting to seize control of the Stepstones was just a way for Daemon to have some kind of seat considering he vacated Dragonstone; in fact, sooner after becoming King of the Stepstones, Daemon makes a move for Runestone.
